‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff ‘Dutton Ranch’ Teases New Conflicts in Texas
Fans of the hit series ‘Yellowstone’ are eager for the upcoming spinoff ‘Dutton Ranch,’ which premieres on May 15 on Paramount+. The trailer released Thursday hints at a new chapter for Beth Dutton, played by Kelly Reilly, and Rip Wheeler, portrayed by Cole Hauser, as they leave Montana behind.
The trailer shows Beth and Rip trying to start over in Texas but quickly become embroiled in conflicts involving violence, fire, and power struggles. Beth expresses her longing for her father, John Dutton III, played by Kevin Costner, who was killed in the fifth season of ‘Yellowstone.’ Rip responds, “We brought the best part of your father with us,” as the scene pans to a cowboy hat and a photo of a younger John.
The preview features familiar characters, including Finn Little as Carter, Beth and Rip’s adopted son, and introduces new cast members such as Annette Bening and Ed Harris. Bening plays Beulah Jackson, a Texas ranch head, while Harris portrays veterinarian Everett McKinney. The trailer also hints at internal conflicts, with Jai Courtney’s character warning of tough times ahead.
The teaser concludes with dramatic shots of Beth, Rip, and Carter’s lives in Texas, including scenes of bar fights, fires, and what appears to be a body being thrown off a cliff. Beth’s voiceover emphasizes the importance of legacy, saying, “A legacy is a beautiful thing but only if it survives.”
Social media reactions poured in after the trailer’s release, with fans expressing excitement and anticipation. Comments on Instagram and other platforms highlighted their eagerness to see Beth and Rip return, calling them “the best couple in history” and saying they are “about to pass out” from excitement.
The official synopsis describes ‘Dutton Ranch’ as a story of Beth and Rip fighting to build a future in Texas, facing brutal realities and a ruthless rival ranch seeking to protect its empire. The series also stars Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca, and Natalie Alyn Lind.
Kelly Reilly recently explained to The Sunday Times that her character Beth is evolving into a different era but retains her core traits of being unrelenting, dangerous, and unapologetically flawed. She noted that Beth’s character defies traditional expectations for women on screen, which she found freeing.
‘Dutton Ranch’ will debut with two episodes at 8 p.m. ET/PT, followed by weekly installments of its nine-episode first season on Paramount+.
