Texas Tech donor challenges Sarkisian after Texas coach questions Red Raiders’ schedule
Texas Tech donor Cody Campbell challenged Texas coach Steve Sarkisian after Sarkisian appeared to criticize the Red Raiders’ nonconference schedule, according to a report and a social media post.
Anwar Richardson reported that Sarkisian spoke at The Touchdown Club of Houston and said, “There’s a team in our state that plays in another conference that has a schedule that I would argue if I played with our twos and our threes, we could go undefeated, and they’ll probably make the College Football Playoff this year.”
Campbell replied on X to a post about Sarkisian’s comments, writing, “Schedule us then! We’ve been talking about it for years and we are more than willing!!”
Sarkisian previously told reporters that Texas would honor its home-and-home commitments with Ohio State and Michigan and that the Longhorns would review nonconference scheduling beyond the next two years, according to his comments to the media after the 2025 season.
The debate over relative schedules has statistical support on both sides. According to the advanced metric system SP+, Texas had the 13th-toughest strength of schedule and the 16th-best strength of record in 2025, while Texas Tech had the 45th-toughest schedule and the third-best strength of record. Texas Tech’s 2025 resume included a 34-10 road win at Utah and a combined 63-14 margin against BYU, per game results.
