The National Weather Service urged beachgoers to visit weather.gov/beach to check surf conditions and rip current risk before visiting beaches for spring break, the agency said.

The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, said a slight risk for severe hail is in place this afternoon and evening, with hail up to ping-pong ball size and gusts up to 60 mph possible.

Tupelo police arrested a 34-year-old man Feb. 24 and charged him with rape and sexual battery after an investigation that began with a Feb. 18 report, the department said.

A traffic advisory said crews will close lanes on International Drive at the airport roundabout in Rankin County from 7 p.m. Feb. 27 to 6 a.m. March 2, with airport access maintained during operating hours.

Forecasters said isolated thunderstorms will increase in the late morning mainly south of the Tennessee-Mississippi state line, and a window for strong to severe storms is possible this afternoon and early evening over northeast Mississippi. Hail is expected to be the primary threat.

Tupelo police said a vehicle and motorcycle collided on North Gloster Street near MDOT in a crash that left at least one person dead. The department later said the scene cleared and the street reopened.
