Scam involving calls from your own number

A scam is circulating where callers “spoof” your number where it appears as though you are getting a call from yourself. The caller then claims to be from a government agency or a major corporation (like Microsoft.)

Your best bet is if you see a call coming in from yourself DO NOT answer it. There have been reports of the scammers asking for large sums of money or else you will be taken to jail.

Other variations of this scam claim that your home phone or cell phone service will be disabled if you do not pay up.
