Damage to multiple homes and businesses after tornado hits Tippah County
Numerous homes and businesses suffered damage after a tornado swept through Ripley and Tippah County early Thursday afternoon.
At least a dozen buildings suffered what a trained tornado spotter called “severe damage.”
A tornado warning was issued at 1:30 for Tippah County that was set to expire at 2:15. The tornado caused significant damage to North Ripley around 1:45 pm.
Both North and South Tippah Schools had let out prior to the tornado warning being issued due to the threat of severe weather.
Damage to several buildings throughout the county has been reported, with Mississippi News Group noting damage to 5 businesses in Ripley including Dollar General, Cardinals and the 76 station north of town. At least one home was categorized as “destroyed.”
As of press time Tippah Electric was reporting approximately 3000 without power.
