Falkner Elementary’s new art and music program to have something for everyone
Falkner Elementary will have several new faces this school year, including a new principal. The school is bustling with teachers getting their rooms together, decorating, gathering supplies and preparing for the influx of students that will be in their class next month.
You would be hard pressed to find a more excited teacher for this school year than Falkner’s new art and music director, Amy Bain.
Mrs. Bain is building this program from the ground up. It has been numerous years since Falkner had any sort of art program so she is designing the curriculum and decorating her classroom. It’s filled with original art, wall murals and numerous books on the world of art and music. That world is sure to be foreign to some of her students this year.
“We are excited to be able to offer this program from the ground up. A lot of these kids have never been exposed to the arts, so we will work part of the time on art and part of the time on music,” Bain said.
She has plans to have a wide range of topics covered, from art and music history to beginning theory. Even incorporating voice and singing lessons with dance.
“We have plans for an ‘inclusion’ room so all of our students can participate. Then around Christmas we will hope to have a holiday program,” Bain added.
Falkner is holding a “Meet the Teacher” night Thursday August 2nd from 4-6 pm. Here is a sneak peek of the new art/music room. Stop in and check it and the new program director out.
