North Mississippi man charged with capital murder, sexual battery in infamous cold case

A north Mississippi man was arrested over the weekend and charged with a heinous 28 year old crime over the weekend according to a press conference from the Starkville Police Department.

The incident, known in the area as the “Labor Day Murder”, occurred on September 3rd 1990. The man charged, Michael DeVaughn of Rienzi, is accused of killing Betty Jones and assaulting and raping Kathryn Crigler on Labor Day in 1990.

Michael DeVaughn was arrested in Tishomingo County on drug possession charges for drug possession in June.

He is being held on $11 million dollar bond. You can see the press conference Here
