Former Mississippi State, Jackson State player charged with capital murder in Austin

Michael Robinson Jr., 24, of Vicksburg was arrested and charged with capital murder of multiple persons in Austin, Texas, and is being held at the Travis County Jail on a $500,000 bond, authorities said.

According to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, the manager of an apartment complex was serving an eviction notice on Sept. 23 when he found the unit’s door open and discovered two people with gunshot wounds. Deputies responded about 8:45 a.m. and found 37-year-old Anecia Thacker and 32-year-old Lamonica Webb, with two guns near them. The case was initially investigated as a possible murder-suicide but detectives later determined it was a double homicide.

Travis County detectives identified Robinson as a person of interest and said investigators found his grandmother’s vehicle on nearby license plate readers multiple times before he was stopped. Robinson, a former Mississippi State player from 2021–24 who transferred to Jackson State in 2025 and was on the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll in 2023 and 2024, reportedly volunteered to give a statement, the sheriff’s office said.

Details in an affidavit documented by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office say Robinson told investigators he responded to an online ad posted by the two women, called the listed number and arrived at their apartment at about 12:45 a.m. on Sept. 21. The affidavit says Robinson told investigators he paid Lamonica Webb $120 via Cash App in exchange for sex, that a struggle over a gun ensued after Thacker allegedly pointed a gun at him, and that he fired roughly eight shots before leaving. The affidavit says Robinson told investigators he did not call 911 because his phone had been stolen. A friend of Thacker’s told investigators the last text she received from one of the victims said Thacker was planning to solicit sex on the app.

Robinson was arrested and charged on Sept. 25, the sheriff’s office said. Attorney Gene Anthes told KXAN that Robinson has no criminal record and “looks forward to Robinson’s day in court and seeing more facts come out as the investigation continues.”
