Prentiss County man drowns at Pickwick on Labor Day
A trip to Pickwick Lake with friends turned tragic Monday evening when a Prentiss County man drowned after falling from a cliff into the water.
Tishomingo County Coroner Mack Wilemon identified the victim as 44-year-old Steven Hopper of the Cairo community.
According to Wilemon, Hopper was swimming with friends at Pickwick around 6:30 p.m. when he fell approximately 15 feet from a cliff into the lake. The incident occurred near the Steel Bridge Boat Ramp, north of J.P. Coleman State Park.
Witnesses reported that Hopper did not resurface after entering the water.
His body was recovered approximately two hours later.
