Sheriff’s Department investigating Walnut shooting death

Tippah County Sheriff’s department is investigating a shooting that left one man dead in Walnut.

On Tuesday Coroner Chris McCalister and investigators responded to a fatal shooting east of Walnut.

A 48 year male, identified to TippahNews.com as Mike Lawton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, Lawton was found dead of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Other media reports indicate investigators believe self defense played a part in the shooting.

Lawton’s body was sent for an autoposy. No word on if any arrests have been made.
