Walnut Man Fatally Injured in Highway 30 Accident
Lafayette County, Mississippi – A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when a Walnut man lost his life in an accident on Highway 30. The fatal crash took place as the victim’s vehicle veered off the road.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) promptly responded to the call at 4:14 p.m. on Tuesday, heading to the crash site on Highway 30. Initial reports indicate that a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Matthew F. Wilbanks, 36, from Walnut, was traveling west on Highway 30. For reasons yet to be determined, the vehicle left the road and ended up in a ditch.
The accident had fatal consequences for Wilbanks. He was rushed to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi after the crash in an attempt to save his life. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, Wilbanks could not recover from his injuries and passed away while under medical care. Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy confirmed his unfortunate death.
While local authorities and the Mississippi Highway Patrol work to gather information about the incident, the exact circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the road remain under investigation.
