Walnut preps for 1-2A tournament starting today

Walnut’s MK Vuncannon is the states leading scorer

Walnut boys and girls travel to Pine Grove for the 1-2A tournament this week with each needing wins to punch their ticket to the 2A playoffs.

The Lady Wildcats, led be the states leading scorer in MK Vuncannon, need a win over East Union in the 4/5 matchup to advance into the tournament and get in to the playoffs.

Game time for the Lady Cats is set for 7:30 on Monday February 6th.

Should Walnut win, they will take on Belmont Tuesday at 6.

Behind Vuncannon’s 23/5 points per game, a pair of freshman round out the top 3 scorers in Kaylee Estes and Henlee Sisco. Senior multi-year starters Madison Weeks and Harley Garner are the other starters, presenting a formidable starting 5.

On the boys side, Walnut needs a win over New Site in the 3/6 game to advance.

The Wildcats fell to New Site in a hard fought 7 point game on January 27th. The Wildcats have since integrated several junior high players into their lineup that have provided a boost to the Walnut squad.

Walnut has a balanced scoring attack with 7 players averaging 7 points or more per game led by Kemarrian Gray with 12.6 points per contest.
