Trump approves disaster declaration for Mississippi storm recovery

President Donald Trump approved a major disaster declaration for Mississippi counties impacted by severe weather from the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The storm, which occurred June 18-20, caused damage to homes, businesses, and farms.

Governor Tate Reeves welcomed the decision, saying it would bolster recovery efforts. He cited damage to 532 homes, 17 businesses, and five farms, and expressed gratitude for federal assistance. “This declaration will further strengthen our recovery efforts and deliver additional support to Mississippians,” Reeves said. “We continue praying for every community impacted. The state of Mississippi will continue to assist for as long as it takes.”

Individual Assistance has been approved for Hancock, Harrison, Pearl River, and Stone counties. Eligible residents can apply for grants for temporary housing, home repairs, and low-interest loans to cover uninsured property losses. Public Assistance is available for Covington, George, Greene, Hancock, Harrison, Pearl River, Stone, and Wayne counties. It provides grants to local governments and nonprofits for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and restoring public infrastructure.

Individuals in the affected counties can apply for aid online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, via phone at 1-800-621-FEMA, or through the FEMA App. Relay service users should provide FEMA with their relay number. The disaster declaration number is DR-4930.
