Tippah County got an average of 44 pain pills per person according to new data

Tippah County got a higher than normal amount of pain medication prescribed compared to other counties in Mississippi. On average, Tippah County had over 44 pills prescribed per person from 2006-2012. Neighboring alcorn county had the 2nd most pills prescribed in the state.

According to information from the DEA compliled by the Washington Post:

• From 2006 to 2012 there were 6,740,390 prescription pain pills supplied to Tippah County, Miss.

•4,688,000 of the pills were distributed by AmerisourceBergen Drug and 3,025,960 were manufactured by Actavis Pharma, Inc.
