An alert says most of Mississippi is under an elevated (Level 2) flash flood threat through this afternoon, with 1 to 3 inches of rain possible and locally higher amounts on already saturated soils.

The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, said multiple rounds of strong to severe storms are expected in the coming days, with damaging winds and heavy downpours that could cause localized flooding.

Highway 26 west of Highway 57 in Bendale is shut down in both directions following severe weather damage, according to authorities.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said a slide caused by heavy rain has closed State Route 26 in both directions for at least 1.5 miles west of State Route 57.

The City of Ripley announced a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, near Ripley High School to mark the nation’s 250th birthday.

Officer S. Jones, Agent T. Bell and Corporal H. Ramirez completed a seven-week Certified Investigator Course at the North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center, the center said.

The Cut-Off will host open mic night from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at 204 S. Commerce Street, with sign-ups available via QR code or walk-ins, organizers said.

Organizers say timely aid can prevent short-term problems from derailing students’ education. They are asking the public to donate online.
