DA warns seniors about scams at Prentiss County appreciation day

District Attorney Jason D. Herring said he attended the Prentiss County TRIAD and Sheriff’s Department Senior Citizens Appreciation Day and used the event to warn seniors about rising scam activity.

Herring said he attended the event with Assistant District Attorneys Kyle Robbins and Joel Baldwin, whom he said share felony-prosecuting responsibilities in Prentiss County for his office and the state.

Herring thanked Sheriff Randy Tolar and the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department for hosting the annual event and said he spoke for a few minutes about a growing number of scams targeting senior citizens.

“If something doesn’t seem right, slow down, ask questions, and talk to someone you trust before sending money or sharing personal information,” Herring said, urging attendees to be cautious about phone calls, text messages, emails and social media schemes.

Herring also thanked volunteers, vendors, organizers and community partners and said it was an honor to spend part of the day with the county’s senior citizens and to show appreciation for their contributions to families and communities.
