SR 16/149 bridge project enters final phase, MDOT says

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said in a May 2026 District 3 update that the State Route 16/149 bridge replacement project across the Yazoo River Floodway Channels has entered its final phase.

MDOT said crews have completed Bridges A and C, finished the concrete bridge deck on Bridge B and are now working on final roadway items.

The agency acknowledged that closures and detours have been inconvenient and thanked motorists for their patience, MDOT said.

Mississippi Transportation Commission Chairman Willie Simmons said the effort will improve safety. “We will soon have a safer set of bridges to carry loads across SR 16 and 149,” he said, according to the department.

MDOT said more details are available in its District 3 update on the western Mississippi projects.
