Heavy rain floods areas around I-240 loop in Shelby County; motorists warned

Very heavy rain is continuing across Shelby County and overwhelming drainage systems, a local weather alert said.

The alert said traffic cameras show flooding around the I-240 loop that is causing traffic issues.

Motorists were urged to heed the warning “Turn around, don’t drown!” in the alert and avoid driving through flooded roadways.

The storms are expected to gradually lift north over the next 30 minutes to an hour, the alert said.
