Mississippi Department of Transportation urges drivers to stop on red during awareness week

The Mississippi Department of Transportation urged motorists to stop at red lights and honored people affected by red-light running during National Stop on Red Week, the agency said in a social media post.

The post said red-light running is more than statistics and that behind each number is a life cut short and a family forever changed, the department said.

The agency called red-light running preventable and encouraged drivers to make safe choices at intersections, adding, “Remember, a safe stop today could protect someone’s tomorrow,” the post said.

The department included the hashtags #StopOnRed2026, #StopTodayProtectTomorrow and #DriveSmartMS in the post, the agency said.
