The Mississippi Department of Transportation said more than 1,100 people were killed and more than 141,000 were injured in red-light-running crashes in 2024, according to a social media post by the agency.
The department said those totals amount to an average of three people killed and 386 people injured every day.
MDOT said the statistics include parents, children, siblings, friends, neighbors and coworkers whose lives were changed by preventable crashes.
The agency urged drivers to stop at red lights and used the hashtags #StopOnRed2026, #StopTodayProtectTomorrow and #DriveSmartMS in its post, the department said.
