Mississippi audit says Project Momentum could save more than $330 million a year

The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor said its report, Project Momentum, could save the state more than $330 million a year by cutting government waste, the office said.

The report found the state loses up to $600,000 annually through bad leases and poorly purposed land, including state-owned golf courses, the office said.

The report says laws sometimes limit applying private-sector practices to government. It also says officials often fail to make simple changes that would save money, the office said.

The office said Project Momentum is available on its website under the Reports tab at https://www.osa.ms.gov/.
