The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor said the state has the second-highest vehicle registration fees in the United States, the office said.
The auditor’s office said the state legislature, counties, special districts and municipalities have the authority to reduce those fees.
The office said it is in Mississippi taxpayers’ best interest for those entities to consider reductions to vehicle registration costs.
The auditor’s office said Mississippians deserve to have their tax dollars defended at every level of government and that the office will continue efforts to protect those dollars.
