Storm Prediction Center outlines five severe-weather risk categories
The Storm Prediction Center says its severe-weather outlooks use five risk categories: Marginal, Slight, Enhanced, Moderate and High, the center said.
The center said the categories indicate increasing levels of severe weather risk and are used in outlook products to inform the public and emergency managers.
Public awareness materials accompanying the outlooks said understanding what each category means is a key part of severe weather awareness and preparedness.
The awareness message added: “Familiarize yourself so you know what to expect!” and included the hashtag #ARSWAW2026.
