Temperatures Reach New Highs, Tying or Breaking Records in Memphis, Jackson, and Tupelo

Temperatures soared across parts of the South over the past two days, tying or setting new record highs in several cities, according to local weather reports.

On March 21, Memphis reached 84 degrees, matching its previous record from 1907. Meanwhile, Jackson, Tennessee, hit 87 degrees, surpassing its previous record of 84 degrees set in 1966.

The following day, March 22, Memphis saw its temperature climb to 86 degrees, exceeding the former record of 83 degrees from 1898. Tupelo reached 88 degrees, breaking its previous high of 83 degrees from 1995 and 1939. Jackson, Tennessee, also recorded 88 degrees, surpassing its previous high of 82 degrees from 1988.

The March 22 record in Jackson also set a new all-time high for the month, surpassing the previous record of 87 degrees, which was tied in 2016, 2018, and 2026, according to weather records.

Forecasts suggest temperatures will drop into the 60s and low 70s today, with upper 50s to 60s expected tomorrow.
