AG: No Retrial After Not-Guilty Verdict, Hung Jury in Hinds County Officer-Involved Shooting Trial
The Mississippi Attorney General’s Office will not retry the Hinds County officer-involved shooting case after a jury returned a not-guilty verdict for one officer and a hung jury for the other.
The announcement came Monday, September 28, 2026, in an official statement from the Attorney General’s Office on the officer-involved shooting trial in Hinds County.
“Our job is to defend the rule of law, even when it is hard,” the statement read. “Every case is thoroughly examined without fear or favor.”
According to the statement, the Attorney General’s Office has concluded its review of 86 officer-involved shootings since the Legislature gave the office that responsibility, and has found the use of force by the officer justified without any further action in all but four.
“In this case, we followed the process, leading to today’s jury verdict of not guilty for one officer and a hung jury for another,” the statement continued. “In the case of a tie, the benefit of the doubt goes to our law enforcement officers and we will not seek to retry this case. The men and women who wear the uniform have earned that.”
