Man struck and arrested after officer-involved shooting on Raymond Road in Jackson

An investigation is underway after a man was struck and arrested following an officer-involved shooting Sept. 18 in the 1000 block of Raymond Road in Jackson.

The Department of Public Safety said state officials are looking into the incident.

According to law enforcement, a Jackson police officer was in the 1000 block of Raymond Road when he heard multiple gunshots and saw a male running with a weapon. The officer gave verbal commands for the subject to drop the weapon and the two then exchanged gunfire, law enforcement said. The subject was struck, received minor injuries and was arrested.

Officials did not release the subject’s name. The officer was not reported to have sustained any injuries, officials said.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assessing the incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing its investigation, agents will share their findings with the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, the Department of Public Safety said.
