Arena football returns to Southaven; Landers Center to host Mississippi Wolfpack beginning April 2027

Officials with the Landers Center told SuperTalk Mississippi the venue has reached a partnership with the American Arena League and will host Mississippi Wolfpack home games beginning in April 2027.

SuperTalk Mississippi reported the Wolfpack were founded in 2024 by Eddie Strong, a former South Panola High School and Ole Miss player, and previously played home games in Tunica.

The source said the team will hold tryouts at the BankPlus Sports Center in Southaven on Oct. 24, 2026. The Wolfpack have said they are looking to the community to help fill roster spots.

SuperTalk Mississippi noted DeSoto County last hosted arena football in 2006, when the Memphis Xplorers folded after six seasons.

Before arena games begin, the source reported the Mid-South Monarchs are scheduled to take the ice at the Landers Center on Oct. 23, 2026 — the venue’s first hockey game in nearly a decade, according to SuperTalk Mississippi.

Coach and founder Eddie Strong was quoted by the source describing his motivation for starting the team: “When I started this thing, it was a vision.”
