Brennen Thompson receives signed Jerry Rice jersey in emotional moment

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Brennen Thompson was moved to tears after receiving a signed jersey from Hall of Famer Jerry Rice during a promotional video by Fanatics.

Thompson, a rookie and former Mississippi State player, opened a gift box that contained the legendary receiver’s jersey. He initially tried to hold back tears, saying, “Don’t make me cry. Don’t put nothing in here that’s going to make me tear up.” However, he quickly became emotional, laughing and wiping away tears as he saw the jersey.

“I mean, what a moment. What a legendary… I have no words,” Thompson said, reflecting his amazement. Rice was born in Starkville, Mississippi, and grew up in Crawford. He played college football at Mississippi Valley State before being drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1985. Rice’s career includes three Super Bowl titles, a Super Bowl MVP award, two NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors, and 10 first-team All-Pro selections.

Thompson, who transferred through Texas and Oklahoma before ending his college career at Mississippi State, was a fourth-round pick by the Chargers in April. He clocked the fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL combine this year, running it in 4.26 seconds. In the preseason opener last Thursday, he caught two passes for 30 yards and returned a punt for 12 yards as Los Angeles defeated Houston 27-7.

Thompson’s selection marked the first time a Mississippi State wide receiver was drafted since 1996. His impressive college production and combine performance have already made him a player to watch in his rookie season.
