California man charged with threatening Mississippi judge in Nolan Wells case

Federal authorities have arrested Joseph Alfredo Vasquez Dumarce, 27, of Sacramento, on charges of interstate transmission of threatening communication. The arrest relates to a threat made to a Mississippi judge involved in the investigation of Nolan Wells’ death.

The indictment states that on July 11, Dumarce sent a series of messages to a Jackson County chancery court judge, identified only by the initials “A.C.” The messages included a warning that a bomb would arrive at the judge’s office and cause destruction. The complaint links the Facebook account used to Dumarce through email, IP addresses, and a phone number registered in Sacramento.

According to records, the phone number called the Jackson County Chancery Court around 1:30 a.m. on July 11. The complaint includes a screenshot of the messages, which threatened bloodshed and quick death, and advised the judge to ask for forgiveness from God.

Dumarce was booked into Sacramento County Jail on Wednesday and remains in custody on a federal hold. It is unclear if he will be extradited to Mississippi. The suspect is listed on California’s sex offender registry for convictions related to child molestation and harmful material sent to minors, with recent release from prison this year.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating Wells’ death. Authorities have also involved the FBI due to the interstate nature of the threats, which have targeted Wells’ family, friends, and public officials. Wells’ funeral took place last week, and his family has begun legal action, sending letters to preserve evidence for potential civil suits.

Wells’ parents, Christine and Elmore Wonsley, hired civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who has called for an impartial investigation and helped facilitate an independent autopsy. The family has stated that threats and misinformation will not deter their pursuit of justice for Wells.
