The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the shooting death of Claiborne County deputy Terrian Bailey, the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office said Monday night.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said the shooting occurred shortly after midnight Monday in the parking lot of Michael Dean’s Convenience Store on Highway 18 near Hermanville. The MBI said gunfire was directed toward a crowd gathered after a local festival, striking Bailey and a female bystander.
Bailey was taken to a hospital, where he later died, the MBI said. The female bystander was also hospitalized with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. The sheriff’s office said Bailey had been shot while reportedly attempting to calm an unruly crowd.
Sheriff Edward L. Goods urged anyone with information to come forward. “Someone knows something,” Goods said. “Information from the public could be the missing piece needed to help bring answers and justice to the deputy’s family, fellow law enforcement officers, and our entire community.”
No arrests or suspect information had been announced as of Monday night, authorities said. Information can be submitted to the FBI, the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office or the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. The sheriff’s office said Bailey was a husband and father of four and had served with the department for six years.
