The Mississippi Department of Public Safety announced Sept. 18, 2026 that 11 people were arrested and charged in connection with the Sept. 7 shooting death of Claiborne County deputy Terrian Bailey.
According to the department, Bailey, 45, was fatally shot in the early hours of Sept. 7 while attempting to disperse a large crowd at a convenience store near Hermanville. He served six years with the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department and is survived by his wife and four children, the department said.
The Department of Public Safety said the following individuals are charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault and conspiracy linked to Bailey’s killing:

Police say 21-year-old Zander Cornell Butler is at large and faces the same charges. The department urged anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact law enforcement.
The department said the arrests resulted from a multiagency investigation involving the Hinds Metro SWAT Team, Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, FBI, ATF and U.S. Marshals Service.
A department release said the investigation is ongoing and that additional information will be released as appropriate and when it will not compromise the integrity of the inquiry. The release added that agents will share their findings with the district attorney’s office when the investigation is complete and that the information is preliminary and subject to change.
