Felony Drug Arrest made in Corinth

Suspect: SENTARIA OZHUNA TAYLOR (21 YRS)

• FELONY POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
• MISDEMEANOR POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
• POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA

On Tuesday, 17 January at approximately 12:22 p.m. Officers located a vehicle that was suspected in a case of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Mitchell Street for further investigation. Officer Waters arrived as a back-up unit and noticed the passenger Sentaria Ozhuna Taylor, exit the vehicle and was standing beside it. Officer Waters recognized Ms. Taylor from previous incidents and initiated an interview with her.

As Officer Waters interviewed Ms. Taylor he detected a strong odor of marijuana and asked her if she was in possession of any narcotics, to which she replied that she didn’t have any narcotics and the smell must be because she and the driver had just smoked a marijuana blunt before the traffic stop. Officer Waters asked for Ms. Taylor’s consent to search her backpack and MS. Taylor then contradicted her previous statement and declared that she did have marijuana in the backpack and volunteered it to the Officer.

Officer Waters then searched the backpack and discovered three separate bags of marijuana amounting to 60 grams, felony amount of Schedule II prescription pills (Oxycodone), misdemeanor amount of Schedule IV prescription pills (Clonazepam), and a set of digital scales.

Ms. Taylor was placed under arrest and then transported to the Alcorn County Jail where she was booked in for Possession of Controlled Substance (misdemeanor), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and was later charged for Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana), Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (Schedule II) and the narcotics were processed and delivered to the State Crime Lab for confirmation testing.

The felony cases will be presented to an Alcorn County Grand Jury and the misdemeanors will be handled in Corinth Municipal Court.
