Fourth arrest made in Jackson triple homicide that killed toddler, two women
Devone Modacure was taken into custody Wednesday in Forney, Texas, the Jackson Police Department said Thursday. Agents with the U.S. Marshals Service and officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested Modacure, and he is awaiting extradition to Jackson for an initial court appearance, the department said.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office in Texas said Modacure was arrested Wednesday and is being held on a capital murder charge.
Modacure is the fourth person arrested in connection with the June 27, 2026, shooting inside a home on the 300 block of Queen Alexandria Lane that killed Keyana Weathersby, 25; her sister Erica Weathersby, 30; and Keyana’s 2-year-old son, Camari Givens, police said. The Jackson Police Department said investigators believe the shooting was targeted and potentially tied to a robbery, and that the probe remains active.
The police department previously said Cornelius Carter and Jordan Carter, both 28 but not related, were charged with capital murder. Jackson police said Cornelius Carter also faces a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Mikala Young, 25, has also been charged with capital murder, the department said.
In response to the killings and a surge in gun violence during June, the Jackson Police Department said it is launching a five-week Quick Response Team that will add officers and concentrate efforts in high-crime areas.
