Golding urges players to give back, stay focused as Ole Miss readies for 2026 season
Ole Miss hosted its first “Meet the Rebels” since 2019 on April 25, when coach Pete Golding and players signed autographs and met fans in a packed Manning Center, the school said.
Golding said the program’s home success during his first three seasons — a 22-1 record at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium — owes much to the fans. “You’ve got to give back to people who give to you,” he told reporters on Monday, April 27.
The Rebels come off what Golding called a historic season that ended with a four-point Fiesta Bowl loss to Miami. Golding said the return of key players such as quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, running back Kewan Lacy and defenders Suntarine Perkins, Will Echoles and Kam Franklin helps sell a championship vision.
Golding said he trusts the team’s leaders but stressed personal accountability. “I think we’ve got a lot of really good leaders in the locker room,” he said. “But, at the end of the day, they’re still young … It’s really about understanding, ‘What do you have to lose?'”
With spring practice ending and summer camp ahead, Golding urged players to focus on daily development and not on marquee matchups. He warned against “circling a game,” adding that the Rebels will open the season against Louisville at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on Sept. 6, according to the team schedule, and that a Sept. 19 home game against LSU will draw significant attention.
