Jackson councilman proposes shifting budget to boost police funding

JACKSON, Miss. — Jackson Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes is calling for changes to city operations to increase funding for local law enforcement, WJTV reported.

Stokes urged budget cuts and departmental shifts to free up money for policing, according to WJTV.

He told WJTV that many Jackson residents are living in fear and that fear, he said, hinders revitalization of the capital.

Stokes said he believes the proposed reallocations would create a safer community, WJTV reported.
