K-9 Deputy Fox dies after medical emergency in Rankin County

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office announced that K-9 Deputy Fox died after suffering a medical emergency while assisting in a search for a juvenile escapee on May 21, 2026, the office said.

The office said Fox received emergency veterinary treatment after the medical emergency. Doctors discovered an undiagnosed tumor that had ruptured, according to the sheriff’s office.

Fox died following the discovery and treatment, the sheriff’s office said. The announcement was reported by WJTV.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office did not provide further details in the statement released to the media, the office said.
