James Cory Matthew Hill of McComb was sentenced in Pike County to concurrent prison terms and will be required to register as a sex offender after convictions for producing and possessing child sexual abuse material, Magnolia Tribune reported.
Magnolia Tribune reported Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced that on September 15, 2026, Pike County Circuit Court Judge David H. Strong Jr. sentenced Hill to 40 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC), with 25 to serve, for sexual battery; 40 years in MDOC custody, with 20 to serve, for production of child sexual abuse material (CSAM); and 40 years in MDOC custody, with 10 to serve, for possession of CSAM. The counts will run concurrently and Hill must serve his sentence day-for-day without the possibility of parole. He was ordered to pay $1,000 each to the Mississippi Children’s Trust Fund, the Mississippi Crime Victim Compensation Fund, and the Victims of Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation Fund. The Attorney General’s Office, with assistance from the FBI and the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, investigated and prosecuted the case, Magnolia Tribune reported.
In other Mississippi items, Magnolia Tribune reported that Ingalls Shipbuilding’s Virtual Reality (VR) Welding Lab has surpassed 1,000 trainees since opening in January 2025. The Tribune said the lab was established with support from the U.S. Navy, AccelerateMS and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and that the VR training integrates immersive simulations into Ingalls’ welding certification process.
Magnolia Tribune also reported local sports developments: following Ole Miss’s 32-24 victory over No. 7 LSU, head coach Pete Golding was named the Bear Bryant Awards National Coach of the Week. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 363 yards, three total touchdowns and completing a career-high 33 passes. The Tribune noted Ole Miss will play No. 21 Florida in Gainesville on Saturday, September 26 at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
Magnolia Tribune’s roundup included national items reported by other outlets: The Hill reported a decline in Democrats saying they plan to vote by mail in upcoming midterm elections; Politico reported on a meeting in New York between President Donald Trump and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani; and CNBC reported that U.S. markets posted their best sessions in weeks, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq gaining on Tuesday, the Tribune said.
