Mississippi AG says use of force in Senatobia shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley was justified
Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said the use of force in the officer-involved shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley in Senatobia was justified.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation reported officers responded to a shoplifting call at the Walmart in Senatobia on June 14, 2026. Senatobia police told investigators they encountered two women and a child leaving the store, attempted to stop the vehicle they entered, and said the driver drove in the direction of officers, nearly striking one, the MBI reported.
According to the MBI and police records cited in the review, Sgt. Hunter Foster discharged a squad-issued firearm as the vehicle fled. The shot struck Kohen Wiley, who later died at an area hospital. Foster was placed on leave days after the shooting.
After the MBI turned its findings over to the Attorney General’s Office, Fitch’s team concluded the officer operated within the law and will not bring charges against Foster. “The Office of the Attorney General announced it has completed the review of a June 14, 2026 incident in Senatobia involving one officer with the Senatobia Police Department,” the office said. “In this incident, the Attorney General’s Office found the use of force was justified.”
Wiley’s family disputed the police account and retained civil rights attorney Ben Crump, and protesters formed in Senatobia after the shooting, the reporting said. Video footage of the incident has not been made available to the public or to SuperTalk Mississippi News, and it is unclear whether Foster will return to the Senatobia Police Department.
