The Mississippi Attorney General’s Office said it has completed its review of two deputy-involved shootings in South Mississippi from late 2025 and ruled the use of force was justified in both cases.
In the first incident, on September 14, 2025, Hancock County sheriff’s deputies engaged in a standoff in Pearlington with Willie Carroll of Texas. Carroll was holding a woman against her will and was killed after he pointed a gun at deputies, the office said.
In the second incident, on September 28, 2025, a Stone County deputy was shot in the leg by a suspect while attempting to serve a warrant. The deputy returned fire. Both the deputy and the suspect were taken to a hospital with injuries, the office said.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations served as the lead agency in investigating both cases, the Attorney General’s Office said.
