Mississippi boosts waterways patrols for impaired boating over Independence Day weekend

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) said it will increase patrols on state waterways to curb boating under the influence during the Independence Day weekend.

The agency said it is participating in Operation Dry Water, a national enforcement campaign targeting boating under the influence.

MDWFP warned the public to expect increased law enforcement presence, including patrols and safety checkpoints on lakes, rivers and coastal waters during the holiday, the agency said.

Operation Dry Water organizers said the campaign aims to make the water safer for boaters and swimmers by removing as many impaired operators as possible. The agency noted many people will be celebrating America250 on the water over the holiday weekend.
