The Mississippi Department of Public Safety stationed its Mobile Command Center near the South Endzone at Ole Miss during the Rebels’ game against LSU, coordinating agency resources with law enforcement partners to keep fans, students and visitors safe. DPS urged attendees to be patient with traffic around the stadium.
Alcorn County roundup: heat persists, storm-spotter class set
Corinth faces near-100-degree heat through Monday before a midweek cooldown, according to National Weather Service Memphis forecasts. NWS Memphis is also offering a free virtual SKYWARN storm-spotter class on Sept. 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The roundup also profiles a Corinth pharmacy technician through Northeast Mississippi Community College’s adult education program.
Tupelo’s Celebration of Cultures this Sunday
The City of Tupelo hosts its annual Celebration of Cultures Sunday afternoon (Sept. 20) at The Depot in downtown Tupelo, beginning at 2 p.m. with free family fun. Organized by Tupelo Parks and Recreation, the event showcases diverse cultures through performances, food and activities.

MSU-South Carolina resumes after lightning delay
Mississippi State’s football game at South Carolina resumed Saturday after a lightning delay halted the SEC contest in Columbia, with kickoff reset to 4:35 p.m. Central. The game opened SEC play for the Bulldogs, televised on the SEC Network.
Mississippi State volleyball sweeps to 10-1
Mississippi State closed the Ragin’ Cajuns Classic in Lafayette, La., with a straight-set win over UT Arlington (25-10, 25-12, 25-20), improving to 10-1 overall. Bernardita Aguilar led with 12 kills and Noella Obi had four blocks. The Bulldogs host LSU in their SEC home opener Sept. 27 at 2 p.m.
Ole Miss volleyball falls 3-1 to Grand Canyon
Ole Miss volleyball dropped a 3-1 decision to Grand Canyon at the Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena in Lawrence, Kansas, falling to 6-5 after winning the first set 25-16. Shayla Meyer posted a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. The Rebels open SEC play next Saturday at Alabama.
