MBI investigating officer-involved shooting on Raymond Road in Jackson

A suspect was wounded and taken into custody after an officer-involved shooting Sept. 18 in the 1000 block of Raymond Road in Jackson, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said.

MBI said a Jackson police officer was in the area when he reportedly heard multiple gunshots and observed an individual running with a weapon. The officer gave verbal commands for the individual to drop the weapon, and authorities say the officer and the suspect exchanged gunfire.

Investigators said the suspect sustained minor injuries and was taken into custody. No information has been released regarding the officer’s condition.

MBI said it is continuing to assess the incident and gather evidence. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be provided to the local District Attorney’s Office and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office for review. Officials noted the information released is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues.
