Mississippi opens outdoor stewardship grant applications August 3
Applications for the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund (MOSTF) grants open August 3, the governor’s office announced Thursday. The grants, funded by a $15 million appropriation from the 2026 legislative session, support projects that conserve natural resources and expand outdoor recreational opportunities.
The MOSTF Board of Trustees will review applications and determine funding allocations. Since its creation in 2022, the program has awarded more than $50.2 million to support 100 projects statewide, leveraging over $100.2 million in total funding, according to the governor’s office. Governor Tate Reeves (R) emphasized the program’s role in attracting matching funds and stimulating economic growth.
Reeves stated, “Mississippi is one of the most beautiful places in America, and I am proud of the work we’ve done to preserve our outdoors for future generations.” The governor highlighted the program’s success in supporting conservation and recreation initiatives that create jobs and attract non-state matching funds.
The grant program is open to state agencies, counties, municipalities, and eligible nonprofit organizations. Funding requests for land acquisition projects will not be considered during this cycle. Applicants must register online to submit their applications, which include supporting documents, project plans, and photographs. The deadline to apply is September 18.
