Mississippi State’s Kamario Taylor Offers Bulldogs Hope in SEC

Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor, who has appeared in two college games, is seen by coaches and media as a potential difference maker in the Southeastern Conference. His skill set has drawn praise from prominent figures, including SEC coaches and analysts.

Taylor’s journey began as a 15-year-old at Noxubee County High School, where he showcased his talent in a high-scoring state championship game against Raleigh. Despite Raleigh’s star recruit Suntarine Perkins, Taylor impressed with five touchdown passes and remarkable speed and elusiveness, recalling players like Reggie Collier and Steve McNair, according to a source familiar with the game.

Now 19 and weighing 230 pounds, Taylor is entering his second college season as Mississippi State’s starting quarterback. He provides the Bulldogs, who are predicted to finish near the bottom of the SEC, with a fighting chance. His ability to make plays when options seem limited has earned praise from NFL legend Archie Manning, who called him a “stud” after watching him at the Manning Passing Academy.

Nick Saban also expressed confidence in Taylor, noting at SEC Media Days, “This guy could be the truth and the light. He is really good.” Experts agree that a talented quarterback is essential for Mississippi State’s success in the tough SEC landscape. Last winning season in the league was in 2014, led by Dak Prescott.

Mississippi State’s offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby highlighted Taylor’s potential, describing him as “special” with no apparent ceiling. Taylor made notable contributions late last season, including a three-touchdown performance against Georgia and a solid showing in the Egg Bowl, despite a loss to Ole Miss. He also performed well in bowl games, running for and passing for touchdowns.

Going into the season, Taylor is the unquestioned starter, benefiting from a year of strength training and valuable experience. He also has a more experienced offensive line to protect him. As he prepares for his third season, Taylor emphasizes the importance of staying healthy, aiming to play all 13 games, including postseason action, to give Mississippi State a real chance in 2026.
