Mississippi to accept Nov. 1–15 applications for wild hog control program
The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce will accept applications Nov. 1–15 for “smart” traps to control wild hogs on private agricultural and forestry properties in all 82 counties, the department said.
The department said landowners and managers are eligible to request traps and that it will provide training and technical guidance on trap use and effective control methods.
Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson said wild hogs are a non‑native nuisance that cause an estimated $60 million in damage to Mississippi agricultural lands each year and encouraged landowners to apply. “I encourage landowners and managers impacted by wild hogs to apply for participation in the Wild Hog Control Program,” Gipson said.
Officials said applications must be completed and submitted online. Submitted applications will be evaluated based on the number of acres available for trapping, historical agricultural losses caused by wild hogs on the property, and current trapping efforts on the property.
