Mississippi University for Women Achieves Second Consecutive 100% Praxis Pass Rate for Speech-Language Pathologists

Mississippi University for Women has recorded a 100% pass rate on the Praxis exam for speech-language pathologists for the second consecutive year, according to the university. Dr. Hunter Manasco, chair of MUW’s Department of Speech-Language Pathology, credited faculty efforts and student preparation for the achievement.

“Our 100% pass rate is a reflection of the countless hours of student preparation and faculty mentorship,” Manasco said. “We are excited to see them begin careers that will make a lasting difference for individuals and families.”

The Praxis is a required exam for speech-language pathology professionals and provides a nationally recognized credential, including eligibility for a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, according to the bureau. The program’s success comes as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 15% growth in demand for speech-language pathologists by 2034, or about 28,000 new jobs nationwide.

In Mississippi, roughly 1,500 speech-language pathologists earn a median annual wage of more than $75,000, with the profession expected to grow by over 20% by 2032, the bureau reports. A master’s degree in the field is necessary to open a private practice, but graduates can also work in educational, medical, and clinical settings.

Dr. Brandy Larmon, dean of the Vandergriff College of Nursing and Health Sciences, noted the achievement’s significance. “A 100% pass rate, especially two years consecutively, is difficult to achieve. It is truly a testament to the dedication of our students and faculty. Our program’s contribution to healthcare in our state is unmatched,” she said.
