Noxubee, Itawamba and Lowndes counties under outdoor burn bans

Noxubee and Itawamba counties enacted burn bans on Wednesday, Sept. 23, and Lowndes County’s ban began Friday, Sept. 25, prohibiting all outdoor burning in those counties.

WCBI reported Sept. 25, 2026, that the bans bar campfires, debris burning, fire pits and field burning — in short, anything with an open flame that produces embers.

The report says items allowed during the burn bans include propane and charcoal grills and propane- or gas-fueled heaters.

WCBI also listed other Mississippi counties under burn bans: Calhoun, Monroe, Lee, Lafayette and Grenada.
