The Rose Hill Company of Tellers will present a costumed, first-person cemetery tour at Rose Hill Cemetery in Meridian on Sept. 26, 2026, Magnolia Tribune reported.
Magnolia Tribune reports the program was organized and is led by storyteller Anne McKee, who began volunteering at Merrehope after retiring from General Motors and later was asked by volunteer Walton Moore to organize a cemetery tour.
According to the Tribune, McKee and volunteers spent about two years organizing the first tour. She called an initial meeting in late 2008, and the group’s opening night in October 2010 drew an estimated 4,000 visitors, the story says.
McKee told Magnolia Tribune that Rose Hill is roughly 10 acres and was owned beginning in 1874 by Benevolence Fund Inc., described in the story as an offshoot of a Masonic organization; the property was purchased to offer free burials for widows and children, the reporting states.
The Rose Hill Company of Tellers has developed about 25 researched stories, the Tribune reports. Performers wear period costumes and present narratives in the first person; McKee emphasized to the paper that the tours are not presented as haunted or fictionalized events.
The Tribune also reports McKee created a Meridian Downtown History Walk and said the group plans to hold its sixth downtown tour in February 2027, commemorating Meridian’s Feb. 10, 1860, founding. The story says the Tellers plan to expand programming in 2027, including a spring cemetery tour now being researched.
