A crash involving a Lowndes County School District bus on Highway 45 on Sept. 15, 2026, knocked the bus over and injured 18 people, authorities reported.
SuperTalk Mississippi reported the wreck occurred about 3:15 p.m. when a Honda Civic allegedly pulled out in front of the bus, striking it. The collision reportedly knocked the bus over and ejected multiple children.
Police said there were 22 children on the bus, ages 6 to 11. Sixteen children sustained injuries, one child was airlifted from the scene to an Alabama hospital, and two others were taken to a Columbus hospital before being airlifted to Children’s of Mississippi in Jackson for further evaluation.
The bus driver and the driver of the Honda Civic were also hospitalized, SuperTalk Mississippi reported.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, the report said.
