Unmarked ICE Vehicles Detain Motorists in Oxford, Residents Say

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in unmarked vehicles have stopped and detained motorists in Oxford, according to videos and accounts from local residents. Efforts to reach ICE for comment were unsuccessful, residents and social media posts show.

The rapid response network Vecindarios901 posted footage of the vehicles on Facebook and warned community members of apparent enforcement activity early Tuesday and Wednesday, the posts show. Images also show officers north of the Tallahatchie River bridge on Mississippi Highway 7 on June 11, 2026, credited to Ace Atkins.

An Oxford resident who witnessed detentions near Mississippi Highway 6 and recorded video said the agents wore civilian clothes with bulletproof vests and behaved in a “hostile” manner. The resident, who asked to remain anonymous because he feared it could hurt his job prospects, said SUVs with Mississippi license plates “swarm out of nowhere” and cut in front of drivers before pulling people from vehicles.

Video posted online shows several agents in plain clothes and bulletproof vests pulling two people from a pickup and escorting them to an unmarked SUV. One agent is seen throwing what appears to be a detainee’s cellphone back into the vehicle before closing the door, prompting concerns about how detainees would contact family members, the footage and residents say. It was unclear where detainees were taken.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department did not respond to questions about the enforcement or whether detainees were being held at the county detention center. Oxford Police Department spokesperson Breck Jones said federal immigration enforcement officers “don’t really communicate with us.” A representative from Sheldon’s Towing said the business had towed five driverless vehicles from Highway 7 after the arrests. The nearest ICE detention center is about 250 miles to the south in Adams County, and users have reported the agency’s online detainee locator tool is not always up to date, residents said. Residents reported no further apparent enforcement activity on Friday.
